Define the outcome
Identify priority areas and desirable vegetation before choosing equipment. Ask how the proposed work will address dense growth, ladder fuels, and the material left behind.
Vegetation management
Vegetation management is a selection process, not simply a matter of clearing everything. The method should follow the property's conditions and the intended result.
Identify priority areas and desirable vegetation before choosing equipment. Ask how the proposed work will address dense growth, ladder fuels, and the material left behind.
Selective cutting, mowing, chipping, hauling, or forestry mulching may suit different conditions. Slopes, soil, access, obstacles, and sensitive areas can change what is appropriate.
Mulching changes the size and arrangement of woody material; it does not remove the fuel. Ask where cut material will go and how it will be managed, particularly near structures.
